News – Week 4 of the lockdown

In anticipation of the entry into force of the new decree-law soon to be adopted by the Council of Ministers, concerning measures to mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 epidemic, The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) on Friday, March 13, 2020, and the National Social Security Institute (INPS) on Saturday, March 14, 2020, announced in their respective press releases the suspension of payments due on March 16, 2020.

The decree will, in fact, include a provision specifying the duration of the suspension of payments to public administrations, as well as introducing further extensions of deadlines and tax measures to support businesses, professionals, and self-employed individuals affected by the health emergency.

The extension of payment deadlines falling on Monday, March 16, will therefore also apply to tax and social security withholdings on employee wages, as well as withholding taxes on payments made in February to professionals and self-employed individuals.
