Social Security Coverage for Illness in the Case of Complex Outpatient Care and/or Stays in Healthcare and Social-Rehabilitation Facilities

In accordance with the constitutional principle of health protection set forth in Article 32 of the Constitution and the right to job protection in the event of illness set forth in Article 2110 of the Civil Code (which governs the suspension of the employment relationship in the event of absences due to accident, illness, pregnancy, and the postpartum period, and the retention of the job itself through the definition of the grace period), with Circular No. 65 of June 16, 2026, the INPS updates the rules for the recognition of social security coverage for illness in cases of complex outpatient care equivalent to day hospital and in cases of stays at certain healthcare facilities, bringing them in line with the evolving care models of the National Health Service.
