News Flash No. 9/2025

Effective April 1, 2025, the new classification of economic activities, ATECO 2025, will take effect. It reflects developments in the business landscape and social changes that have occurred, thereby modifying the previously established activity codes.

The ATECO classification is a coding system used by Istat to classify the economic activities of businesses for statistical and administrative purposes. The ATECO code (which also appears in Chamber of Commerce records under the activity descriptions) is essential for businesses, as it affects their eligibility for grants and tax breaks, as well as their ability to participate in competitive bidding processes.

Accordingly, effective April 1, 2025, the Business Registry will adopt the new ISTAT ATECO 2025 classification, in accordance with EU Delegated Regulation 2023/137.

The Chamber of Commerce will automatically update the new ATECO codes in the company’s Chamber of Commerce registration record, and the previous ATECO codes will also be retained for a transitional period to facilitate the transition to the new classification.
