New classification of economic activities

From April 1, 2025, the new classification of economic activities, ATECO 2025, will come into effect, reflecting developments in the business world and social changes that have taken place, modifying the activity codes previously in place. 

The ATECO classification is a system of codes used by Istat (the Italian National Institute of Statistics) to classify the economic activities of companies for statistical and administrative purposes. The ATECO code (which also appears in Chamber of Commerce registrations under the activity descriptions) is essential for companies, as it affects the granting of subsidies, concessions, and participation in tenders.

With this in mind, starting from April 1, 2025, the Business Register will adopt the new ISTAT ATECO 2025 classification, in accordance with EU Delegated Regulation 2023/137.

The Chamber of Commerce will automatically update the new ATECO codes in the company's Chamber of Commerce registration, and for a transitional period, the previous ATECO codes will also be retained in order to facilitate the transition to the new classification.
