Subject: Urgent regional ordinances in force for reasons of hygiene and public health: work in the agricultural and horticultural sectors, on outdoor construction sites and in quarries, in conditions of prolonged exposure to the sun
For over a week, Italy has been affected by an excessive heatwave, which is causing serious incidents, including, unfortunately, the deaths of workers due to exposure to the sun. The persistence of high temperatures has led many regions to adopt preventive measures for those working in fields, construction sites, quarries, and nurseries.
The regions where the ordinances are already in effect are Veneto, Lazio, Umbria, Calabria, Sicily, Abruzzo, Tuscany, Campania, Sardinia, Apulia, and Lombardy.
In particular, we would like to draw your attention to Order No. 348 of July 1 issued by the Lombardy Region, which ordered a halt to work in construction, quarries, farms, and nurseries from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., in view of the prolonged heat waves and those forecast for the coming days. The President of the Lombardy Region signed the urgent ordinance aimed at protecting the health and safety of workers exposed to high temperatures, and the decision was taken after a meeting with trade unions, convened on Monday, June 30, by the Welfare Councilor, Giulio Bertolaso.
